More Than You've Planned

Back to the News Summaries
Jacob’s son Joseph was shown God’s plan for his life as a young boy. His brothers and parents did not like the plan. The brothers were so fed up with Joseph they eventually sold him into slavery.

The plan took decades to come about. But it surely did. Eventually, Joseph was promoted to prime minister of Egypt (as a slave) and had control of massive storage bins of food during a famine. His long-lost brothers arrived in search of food. During the years in slavery and imprisonment Joseph had to notice that his life did not match up with the grand vision he’d seen as a young boy.

As the hungry brothers found themselves face to face with their little brother, they wondered if Joseph held a grudge after all those years? Joseph said to his brothers, “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive”.

Joseph’s life was so much more than the baby brother who was favored by his father and despised by his brothers. He rose above his personal suffering. Joseph remained faithful to God throughout his troubles. And God blessed him and those around him.

Upon being reunited with his brothers he realized that this event was the end result of God’s plan for his life. God had sent Joseph ahead of his family to be in a position to save his family and the nation Israel. All the suffering and separation Joseph endured was for a greater purpose.

In the same way, your life is so much more than you’ve planned. Find a way to see it through God’s eyes.
